The Play That Goes Wrong
Come celebrate the work of the Sharon Playhouse Education Department on Friday, December 6 at 7:00 PM! Headlining the evening will be a staged reading of Young at Heart, a brand-new play written by Education & Associate Artistic Director Michael Kevin Baldwin and inspired by the imaginative voices of local elementary school students. This staged reading brings together a talented cast of local youth, educators, and seasoned actors to present a heartwarming story that promises to resonate with all ages. Funds raised will go towards the Playhouse’s newly commissioned risers, a crucial upgrade to The Bok that enhances our community’s shared experiences.
Under Baldwin's direction, the esteemed cast of Young at Heart includes Darcy Boynton, Ricky Oliver, Sienna Brann, Macey Levin, Katherine Almquist, Jim Flaherty, Susie Hackel, Callan Scott, Ivan Howe, Wild Handel, and Lyra Wilder. The evening will kick off with a special performance by members of the Sharon Playhouse YouthStage Company, delivering three moving musical numbers: “Heart” from Damn Yankees, “Happiness” from You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, and “Consider Yourself” from Oliver! Featuring the young talents of Ivan Howe, C.C. Stevenson, Sylvie Stevenson, Lyra Wilder, Avery Morrissey, Mira Norbet, Sam Norbet, Kate Drury, and Gilvey Barnett-Zunino, these musical highlights set the stage for a night filled with inspiration, connection, and community spirit.
More about the play Young at Heart:
Young at Heart, a new play for young audiences by Michael Kevin Baldwin, is a heartwarming, laugh-out-loud comedy that brings generations together in unexpected ways. When four middle schoolers find themselves assigned to a local nursing home for Saturday detention, they think they’re in for the dullest day ever. But the nursing home’s spirited activities director has something more adventurous in mind—a custom-designed escape room! To break free, the students must team up with four feisty senior residents, learning that age really is just a number when it comes to wit, courage, and friendship. Young at Heart is an uplifting, family-friendly play that celebrates the humor, wisdom, and strength we all share—no matter our age. Don’t miss this delightful story that promises to leave audiences young and old cheering for more!

The Gunn Memorial Library Stairwell Gallery is pleased to present "Light, Color, and Mood," a solo show by Sergio Villaschi on display from November 30 through January 27.
In Light, Color, and Mood, Sergio Villaschi takes an artistic approach to photography, using light, color, and texture to create compelling still life and landscape images. Inspired by the mosaics and frescoes of his native Rome, Sergio's work blurs the line between traditional photography and fine art, giving each piece a distinct atmosphere and depth. His still life compositions are vibrant and layered, while his landscapes capture a quiet, serene quality.
Through techniques like "light painting" and Intentional Camera Movement, Sergio enhances his images with unique textures and moods. He invites viewers to see familiar subjects in a new way, with each photo offering a refined and thoughtful perspective.

Connections: an exhibit of oil and mixed media by the artists Souby Boski and Karen Simmons.
Souby Boski has been an Art teacher in the Connecticut public schools and Adjunct Professor of Art at Naugatuck Valley Community College. Since 2004, she has been teaching painting and ceramics at area art education venues in CT, NY, MA and Florida. Souby holds a BA in Art Education from Stetson University and a MALS in Art from Wesleyan University. She has studied painting with nationally recognized artists and teachers, like Eric Aho, Ira Barkoff, Lois Dodd and Ruth Miller.
Karen Simmons grew up in France, London and Brussels. Her parents were friends with several contemporary artists, from whom she absorbed a love of all things beautiful into the most humble of daily details. She holds a BA in Art History and Studio Art from Williams College and a Master in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. Karen has studied painting under Ira Barkoff and Eric Aho, sculpture under Mary Adams and John Reideman.
Karen states: "the "Connections" of this show continue and get personal, especially in my still-lives, which often include familial objects, many from my mother's collection. My still-lives build on each other by including the same objects, also prior still life paintings that become abstracted objects, paintings of my studio "object libraries" and finally, sometimes, abstractions of the still life itself."
Both artists have participated in many exhibitions as well as in group shows all over Litchfield County and beyond.
For over 18 years, Karen and Souby have been connected through painting, classes, teaching, volunteering and friendship. The exhibition is a result of the dialog between these women as they work to explore painting through color and abstraction.

Federico Uribe pairs form and unexpected materials to create imaginative and captivating sculptural assemblages. Highlighting his treatment of animals and the landscapes they inhabit, Federico Uribe: Menagerie offers a playful yet substantive perspective on the natural world. With a wry sense of humor, objects like Bambi made from bullets and Screwed Panda invite questions about the extractive relationship humans have established with animals and the land we all call home.

For the first time, Poskas: Father and Son brings together the artwork of Waterbury natives Peter Poskas II and his son Peter Poskas III. Poskas II is known for painting realist views of Connecticut cities and landscapes, exploring conditions of weather and light on his subjects. Dedicated to realist still lifes before a life-altering accident, Poskas III has recently turned his attention to impressionistic views of the land, animals, and buildings surrounding his Washington, CT farm. A wide-ranging retrospective of late-career Poskas II, and mid-career Poskas III, this exhibition not only speaks to the body of work of both artists, but also tracks how their relationship has changed, grown, and deepened over time through the lens of their artwork.

Torrington City Hall Hosts "Made In Torrington" Exhibit, Showcasing Local Industry and Artistry
The exhibit is open to the public in the City Hall Auditorium during normal hours when meetings are not in session.
Following a successful exhibit at Five Points Annex earlier this year, a curated selection from the original 65 works of local photographer Katina Hungerford are showcased at City Hall in the auditorium throughout October and November. This continuation of the “Made In Torrington” exhibit is curated and overseen by William Haygood, a key figure in Torrington's vibrant arts community, a member of Torrington's Arts and Culture Commission, Five Points Arts Facilities Manager, and art curator for City Hall.
"Made In Torrington" is a black-and-white, documentary-style photo exhibit dedicated to the workers, artisans, and everyday local heroes who make the Northwest corner of Connecticut an extraordinary haven of hard work, inspiration, and innovation. This project captures Torrington's hardworking spirit, bridging labor and artistry through striking portraits. Featured in the exhibit are craftsmen and women at work across various iconic Torrington locations, including O&G Industries at the new high school construction site, RBC Bearings, Iffland Lumber, The Nutmeg Conservatory for The Arts, WAPJ Radio Station, City Hall, Colonial Bronze, Liberty Art and Framing, Center Congregational Church, and The Venetian Restaurant. Each image reflects the pride and dedication of Torrington’s people, often working behind the scenes to keep the city thriving.
Several pieces from the collection will also be on display at local venues during the exhibit’s run. Upon the completion of the exhibit series, the full body of work will be donated to the Torrington Historical Society, ensuring this powerful visual documentation of Torrington’s industrious spirit is preserved for future generations.
About the Artist: Katina Hungerford is a renowned photographer and local artist who grew up in Torrington and resides in the city with her musician husband, Steven McGrath. With the support of a microgrant from the Northwest CT Arts Council, The City of Torrington, and The American Rescue Plan Act, Katina has documented the hardworking spirit of Torrington in “Made In Torrington.”
For more information about the Made In Torrington Art Exhibit, including a full schedule of events, please visit the digital exhibit on Facebook at facebook.com/madeintorrington or contact Katina Hungerford at katina@hungerford.marketing.

The exhibit will run from Saturday, November 9th through Thursday, January 2nd, with an opening reception on November 9th at 2pm. All are welcome.

From its inception, the United States has been a maritime nation. Ever since the first use of sea power during the American Revolution, the growth, the trajectory, and the international standing of the United States has been deeply tied to its maritime role and its naval forces.
The story of the United States Navy offers essential perspectives on how the United States came to be, the unfolding of its history, the experiment of American democracy, and the nation’s transformation into a global superpower. Beyond all of this, the history of the US Navy is a spellbinding and deeply poignant human story—a chronicle of extraordinary commitment, ingenuity, valor, sacrifice, and patriotism, spanning the 250 years of its existence.
Your guide is Professor Craig L. Symonds of the US Naval Academy, a celebrated maritime historian who brings to the table astonishingly detailed and far-reaching knowledge of US naval history, coupled with a flair for engrossing storytelling.
11/18: British Origins & American Revolution
11/25: Early Navalists & War of 1812
12/09: Pirates of the Caribbean & Navy Expeditions
12/16: Civil War
12/23: Civil War continued & Spanish American War
12/30: Battleship Age, WW1, and WWII
01/06: WWII continued
01/13: WWII continued
01/20: Birth of NATO, Cold War & the Korean War
More about the Professor: Craig L. Symonds is a Professor Emeritus of History at the US Naval Academy and a former Ernest J. King Distinguished Professor of Maritime History at the US Naval War College. He earned a PhD in History from the University of Florida and is the author or editor of more than two dozen books. His book Decision at Sea: Five Naval Battles That Shaped American History won the Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt Prize in Naval History. He also wrote Lincoln and His Admirals: Abraham Lincoln, the U.S. Navy, and the Civil War, which won several awards.
