Description

The Hickory Stick Bookshop is delighted to host Connecticut musician Ron Castonguay who will be here to sign copies of his new book “Rhythmic Sight Reading” on Saturday September 21st at 3 pm.

ABOUT THE BOOK

It is Castonguay’s observation that over 90% of melodic sight-reading mistakes happen in rhythm.  His book introduces a rhythmic sight-reading method that he has developed over the past three decades of teaching music called “The Tik-A Tee Method.”  This method works.  It is fun, easy to learn, and practical.  It is intended for any and every ensemble type – or private instruction – in upper elementary, middle school, high school, college and beyond.

The 172-page spiral bound book focuses only on rhythm and time signatures, from beginning to advanced, through the vocalization of rhythms using only four basic words. With clear and concise explanations, visuals and summaries, constructed in an easy-to-understand, easy-to-use format, with over 346 practice exercises and over 363 MP3s, this book could change how you and your students think about sight-reading! Castonguay’s system is research-based and backed by over three decades of experience directing instrumental and vocal ensembles, as well as high level music theory courses.
