STEEL MAGNOLIAS is a beautiful homage to women and female friendships. The play, concerned with a group of southern women in a small-town beauty parlor, is alternately hilarious and touching-- and, in the end, revealing of the strength of community and the purposefulness, which underlies the witty banter of its characters when dealing with family, illness, and deep personal loss.
