Oct. 1: Impossible Realities: The Art of M.C. Escher
M.C. Escher, the Dutch graphic artist, was a master of mind-bending creations, blending art and mathematics. Born in 1898, Escher's journey from a struggling student to a renowned artist is as fascinating as his intricate lithographs and woodcuts. This program will explore Escher's life, his unique artistic vision, and the mathematical concepts that underpin his most famous works, offering a glimpse into the imagination of one of the 20th century's most innovative artists.
Nov. 12: The Swirling World of Art Nouveau
Have you ever been captivated by the sinuous curves and organic forms of Art Nouveau? This enchanting artistic movement, which flourished from the 1890s to the 1910s, revolutionized visual arts and architecture with its emphasis on natural shapes, flowing lines, and decorative elegance. At the forefront of this style was Alphonse Mucha, a Czech artist whose iconic posters and illustrations epitomized the grace and beauty of Art Nouveau. This program explores the key characteristics of Art Nouveau and delves into Mucha's masterful works, uncovering how his distinctive style influenced not only graphic design but also the architecture and interior decor of the era.

Saturday, December 13th, at 7:00 PM, Katherine Winston returns to 2nd Home, and we can't wait to have her back!
Katherine Winston is a Singer/Songwriter from Massachusetts. She began singing as a young child and soon was performing throughout the Northeast. By the time she was 15, she was already pursuing music full time. In 2015, after making it to the Top 24 on Season 14 of American Idol, she toured and traveled to Los Angeles where she continued recording and releasing music.
Throughout her musical journey, she has been inspired by classic artists such as Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash, and Dolly Parton as well as current artists such as Kacey Musgraves, Brandi Carlile, and Taylor Swift. All of whom have contributed to Katherine's desire to write relatable, honest lyrics driven by emotion and delivered with a catchy melody that gets stuck in your head. Pair that with Katherine's sweet, yet powerful vocals and you will be sure to want to follow along.

Saturday, January 31st, at 7 PM, 2nd Home welcomes back Orb Mellon with Dave Robbins. Orb Mellon (https://www.facebook.com/orbmellon/) is the blues moniker of Mike Malone, founder and guitarist of the seminal 1990s indie rock band and Sony/Epic recording artists Dirt Merchants. Orb Mellon mines the raw energy of 20th Century American roots music, particularly whiskey fueled house party delta blues. They are one of the most dynamic performers we've had, and we don't use "don't miss" lightly. We are very much looking forward to having them back!

Friday, March 6, at 7:00 PM, 2nd Home welcomes Barbara Stein for her first time here. Barbara is a life-long music lover and player. Raised in the mid-west, Barb relocated with her husband to the “northwest corner” of CT by way of NYC. Barb’s sound is a blend of moody, fingerstyle driven alt-rock and Americana blues and dives into “open tunings”. She writes many originals but loves covering some of her favorite artists. Her song list is a throw-back to the Woodstock and Laurel Canyon-era covering many of the icons -- Joni Mitchell, the Dead, Hot Tuna and Jorma Kaukonen, Simon & Garfunkel, Mark Knopfler, the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Jeff Tweedy, Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt, Patty Griffin, Emmy Lou Harris, Chris Smithers, Shawn Colvin, Leo Kottke, Peter Mulvey--to name a few. Please come down and help us make Barbara feel welcome for her first time here.
