The Gunn Museum is excited to announce a special Zoom lecture on "Washington's Arthur Woodruff and the Creation of Glee Clubs and Community Choruses in the Gilded Age” on Monday March 24 at 6:30pm.
In this virtual lecture John Ong, past president of the University Glee Club of New York City will discuss the importance of Dr. Woodruff and his role in early community choruses and the glee club movement.
Dr. Woodruff was born in 1853 in Washington, CT. He was the conductor of the University Glee Club of New York City for thirty years, ending his tenure in the1920s. He would go on to lead the Washington Choral Club. The museum is fortunate to have Dr. Woodruff’s papers in its collection.
